Scientific studies aren’t in, but it looks like we may be forgetting how to potluck.The Friends of the Library and Historical Society at Center Point are keeping the casseroles coming by hosting the annual community Harvest Potluck Thursday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. in the Library community room.At 7 Kathy Wilson, Marion historian, will give a free slide presentation on “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” in conjunction with Banned Book Week.

First Christian Church Center Point to host Kraft Pillow Service October 14

The First Christian Church in Center Point will host the Kraft Pillow Service on Saturday, October 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Drop off your pillows to be cleaned and for new covers (ticking) or purchase a new one.  While you're there, shop our bake sale for some delicious homemade goodies!  530 State Street, Center Point, 52213.

Wesley United Methodist Church Food Pantry Saturday, September 16

The Wesley United Methodist Church will hold their food pantry on Saturday, September 16 from 10-11:00 a.m. at the church. The church is located at 516 2nd Ave. in Vinton, next to the library. You only need to bring boxes and bags to carry home your groceries!

More Railroading at the Center Point Depot Museum, Sunday October 8

There will be more railroading at the Center Point Depot Museum. On Sunday, October 8, beginning at 2:00 p.m. the Center Point Historical Society will host a free slide show about the old railroad line between Anamosa and Quasqueton. Gary Holzinger, of Stone City, author of the book “Wapsi Valley Route—CAN Railroad,” will give the presentation.

Children's Storytime in a Bag now offered at the Vinton Public Library

The Vinton Public Library is pleased to offer "Storytime in a Bag" kits!  Check out a couple of fall themed books from our children's collection, and take home a kit with activities for you to enjoy with your child!

Shellburg Lions to hold Bingo October 7 and 21

The Shellsburg Lions will be having Bingo at the Shellsburg Legion on October 7 and 21 (1st and 3rd Sat). The Legion will be serving food. 12TH ANNUAL CENTER POINT CEMETERY WALK SEPT. 24

The Center Point Historical Society will hold its annual Cemetery Walk on Sunday, September 24, at 4 p.m. at the Center Point Cemetery, 1500 Main St. Costumed actors will portray five of Center Point’s dear departed. If it’s rainy (remember rain?) the event will be at the Depot Museum, 700 Washington St., with projected photos of the gravesites.
